Given the fact that Once In A Blue Kentucky Moon is set in Kentucky, I thought it would be fun to do a series on all things famous from Kentucky. So, in that spirit here goes the first in the series with famous people born in Kentucky. So if you haven't already guessed, what all these people have in common, read on and you'll soon know:)
Born in Louisville Kentucky in 1990, Jennifer Lawrence is best known for playing Katniss Everdeen in the Hunger Games franchise. She also portrays Raven in the X-Men series. In 2013, she won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in the film Silver Linings Playbook.
Born as Cassius Clay and later changing his name to Muhammad Ali, Ali became a boxing icon as well as a peace activist and a philanthropist. Also born in Louisville, Kentucky in 1942 Ali was known as "The Greatest," recording 56 career wins, 37 of them by knockout, in his 61 professional bouts. He died in 2016 at age 74.
Born almost two hundred years before in Hodgenville, Kentucky in 1809, Abraham Lincoln was the sixteenth U.S. President. He led the country through the horrific American Civil War and helped to abolish slavery with the 13th amendment.
Joining these figures as a native Kentuckian, George Clooney was born in Lexington in 1961. He is an actor, director, writer, and producer and became the first person to be nominated for Academy Awards in six different categories, winning his first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the 2005 film Syriana. He portrayed Dr. Doug Ross on the medical drama series ER from 1994 to 1999 and starred as the title character in the Ocean's Eleven trilogy.
